Finding Compassion in my Imperfections

Posted by marcitjader at 02:11 AM on February 16, 2010 Comments comments (0)

My family and I recently moved to Castle Rock, Colorado from Arizona.

It was a BIG dream my husband and I discussed in detail before we were married that, we would move to a state that had four seasons, outdoor activities we enjoy-hicking, biking, snow boarding, camping, and a place that our children could enjoy as well.

I am originally from Colorado, born in Colorado Springs and spent fond childhood memories in Littleton, so it didn't take much convincing to move back to a state I already knew I loved. To give me even more incentive, my sister was pregnant with her first child and I couldn't stand being an Auntie across states!

Needless to say, since moving here in November, my life has taken twists and turns, as it usually can. I had the opportunity to go back into the corporate Accounting world again, payroll in particular and set my coaching practice aside for a while. Give myself a chance to recharge my batteries, reflect internally on what inspiures and motivates me...

All this can be very liberating but also stressful and unnerving! As I am learning to give myself permission to to take this "break" I find myselft still "Beating myself up" for it. There's that nagging "7 year old voice" in my head that says, "you should be doing this", "you haven't done this"... all these little reminders showing me how short I fall from perfection.

So how can we find "Unconditional Compassion" for ourselves when our mind wont let our imperfections go unnoticed?

Here are some tips I've found that calm my inner driver down and help me feel "guilt free" and off the hook with the score keeper of my mind...

  • Listen to EVERY voice that speaks to me and THANK THEM for sharing all their thoughts with me! They must have SO much love for me if they are this determined to tell me their thoughts. I have found, the more I try to ignore it or prove that they are wrong, the louder and more demanding my internal negative voices become.

  • OWN IT! Take full responsiblity for every acusation those voices claim I am (for example-"lazy, a procrastinator, a fake, a fraud, a looser, etc." ) By taking responsibility for the fact that I could be any of these things at any given time, doesn't mean that I AM...but being human it certainly is nice to know I have the right. I CAN be lazy when I choose to be, just as I CAN be driven when I choose-what freedom there is in those choices!

  • Change my story. Once I realize I get to choose what/who I want to be, I can embrace it who I am in the moment and then I can always decide what I want to do about it. The key is to shift my choices to a GUILT FREE choice versus doing things with perceived forced demands or to prove that I'm not what my mind thinks I am.

After I practiced these perspectives it was exciting how FUN it was to Embrace All my Imperfections... What about you?

What's a "Mom Moment" you'd love to have a solution to?

Posted by marcitjader at 04:00 PM on September 28, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Every mom has her "High" and "Low" moment in each day.

If you are like me, the "highs" of being a mom can make you feel as if you are the QUEEN OF THE WORLD, while the "lows"  leave you feeling as if you should turn in your mom cape for good.

However you experience them, one thing's for sure, they are ever evolving and usually add up to one big roller coaster ride called "life"!

It's these precise moments that keeps us going and make life of being a mom fun, exciting and crazy!

Well I am starting a new "awakening" or at lease new "conversations" among moms. Not one of complaining , ranting, and raving but one of sharing, inspiring, and encouraging among moms to continue being the best we can be.

How??

Well starting Monday, November 16, 2009 at 1pm-2pm PST,  I am begining a monthly group call called "Mom Moments" where moms can connect worldwide on the telephone to share the highs and lows of being a mom and receive instant coaching tools/resources/solutions to celebrate the gifts each moment brings to us!

Everyone who registers for my site, will receive a personal invitation to join this monthly call, however, due to the volume of callers on the line, not everyone can have their "mom moment" addressed.

If you'd love to be a mom who has her "Mom Moment" selected LIVE our call, met with REAL life solutions or celebrations, post a comment on my blog or send me and email.

Describe your moment and a question you'd like a solution to marci@savvymomsnetwork.com , type "Mom Moment" in the subject line.

If you'd like to join this call, stay tuned as we send you our first monthly topic and call details so you can join these interactive calls!

Oh, if you can't make these LIVE calls, we'll also share how you can receive recorded versions of these calls to listen at your convenience!

Here's to enjoying our ride of life!

Journaling to your goals!

Posted by marcitjader at 02:51 AM on July 16, 2009 Comments comments (2)

When I was a girl, I started writing in a journal after reading Judy Blume’s book, “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret”.

I had found journaling was the most effective way for me to gain clarity on my thoughts, feelings and desires without saying something to others that I didn’t mean or was embarrassed to say. It allowed me a safe way to understand ‘me’ first and I knew that somehow by writing this down, someone was listening to me and helping me find my own answers! Looking back, I now know this was my first experience into connecting with my soul.

After several people mentioned the book "Write It Down, Make It Happen" by Henriette Anne Klauser, I decided to see what it was all about. I was very excited to read in this book how we can use journaling with purpose and start writing down our goals AND how we feel about working towards those goals!

I felt as if this was the missing piece I stumbled upon! She further explains that by writing things down, it sends a signal to the brain that you mean business! It’s more that just a wavering thought; it’s something we will actually ACT upon!

How many of you are like me and put a goal out there and think we’re working really hard to accomplish it but it’s just not happening fast enough, so we quit? The book says that when this happens, instead of quitting, we can ask three questions to ourselves in a journaling format (free and open):

What more do I have to learn?

What is the lesson here for me?

What is the ‘waiting’ teaching me?

Sometimes it’s insightful enough to know that things happening or not happening on the outside are great reflections of what our own internal struggles. By looking within and writing about it, we start understanding our emotions, fears or beliefs that may be preventing us from reaching our goals.

When I spend time coaching my clients, the majority of our work is spent breaking the negative patterns, beliefs and thoughts we have relied on for years and replace them with positive, more supportive ones to help work “with us” instead of “against us”.

In an effort to arm you with tools that will help you be the most successful you can be; here are some tips I compiled to start you on your way!

1. Use an existing notebook or purchase a new one and designate this as your “Journal of Goals”

2. Ask yourself three questions:

a. What is it that I want right now?

b. How will I feel when this happens?

c. What can I do to be ready for this to come to me?

3. Write regularly in your journal about the experiences, feelings, and thoughts that surface while you are working towards your goals.

The second question gets your feelings about your goals invested into the process. It’s like test driving the car of your dreams so you can remember how great it feels and inspires you to make it happen!

The last question, is also an important piece to this process and what the author calls “Stirring the Pot”. By asking yourself what actions you are willing to take to help your goals formulate from words on paper into real life possibilities is key to “Making It Happen”!

That’s it. I have found these steps to be simple yet SO powerful in helping us work towards our goals!

In fact, months later I created the Savvy Moms Journal as a tool that helped me in creating my personal, business and family goals.

Of course, I asked the help of a friend and journaling expert, Carla Reeves, owner of Sanity Journals and designer of custom journals. Check out her great products at www.sanityjournals.com

Managing Our Time, Tips for working moms

Posted by marcitjader at 02:38 AM on July 16, 2009 Comments comments (1)

How many of you plop on the couch at the end of the day asking yourself, "Why am I so exhausted?" and "What did I accomplish today?”

As I speak to working moms throughout the valley, I hear the biggest complaint is not having enough time in the day to accomplish the things we want and need!

Because this topic is in demand, we are spending two months uncovering great Time Saving Tips and Balancing Act Tips for those who are ready to start their day with intention, know exactly what you accomplished, and enjoy time with your family while doing it!

I used to think I was pretty savvy at managing my time, at least until I started working from home with a toddler by my side. As I searched for an expert in this area, I decided to go to the one working mom who has spent years in business empowering women with "the golden rule" and living by her priorities of "god first, family second, career third".

She is the founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics and author of this month's book excerpts, "You Can Have It All", Mary Kay Ash. Her book is filled with lots of great tools to help grow your business and manage your time. She also makes sure it is known that no amount of money or career gain is worth sacrificing time with your family. That is certainly music to my ears!

The tool Mary Kay Ash recommends using to keep your day productive was created by Ivy Lee, a well known efficiency expert. He approached Charles Schwab with this tool and boldly stated that he could increase the sales and efficiency of Schwab's team by implementing the "Six Most Important Things To Do List" for a period of three months.

Schwab studied the massive results this list had on his business and generously rewarded Mr. Lee with a check for $35,000 during a time when that compensation was unheard of!

If you'd like to see even a portion of those results, READ ON how YOU can use this list too!

The steps to creating the Six Most Important To Do List is:

1. At the end of your day, make a list of the Six Most Important things you have to do the next day and number them in their order of importance.

For example number one will be the most important but may also be the hardest or most unappealing item to do. Number six will be the lowest priority and one that will not require as much energy for you to complete.

2. As you complete your list, scratch off each item and go onto the next one.

3. If some items don't get done, add the items onto the following day's list.

4. Repeat this daily!

Imagine what goals we can accomplish if we are willing to apply this one tool to our daily lives for the next three months?

Now, for me, being a Personal Power Coach/Trainer, I have one more step to add.

5. Keep track of your daily lists.

If you notice yourself continuing to "put off" the same items or related tasks on your list from day to day, this is a repetitive pattern you are creating. It may also be the key reason why some of your goals are not happening!

This is where (in my opinion) things get really exciting! Imagine if we could break through the repetitive patterns that hold us back in all areas of our life!

The great news is WE CAN!

Sometimes just noticing this about ourselves helps us "self correct" or make the changes needed on our own. However, if the thought of knowing this overwhelms you with frustration, take a deep breathe, I've got some solutions!

Seek to understand! Ask yourself questions to learn what this task represents within you. It usually is linked to a fear or belief that we make "mean" something about us, but in reality is not true. We call this an "illusion of the mind".

Some questions to ask are:

"What am I afraid of in completing this task?"

"What is the worst that could happen?"

"Who would I be without this fear?"

The willingness to face our fears with an attitude of "Bring it On!" Can help you BUST through to the Unlimited Possibilities in life!
